A groin pull, also known as a groin strain, is an injury that occurs when the muscles in the groin area are stretched or torn. This typically happens during activities that involve sudden movements, quick changes in direction, or excessive force on the muscles, such as sprinting, jumping, or kicking. The groin muscles, which are responsible for moving the hip joint, can be strained when they are forced to contract or stretch beyond their normal range of motion. Symptoms of a groin pull may include pain, tenderness, swelling, and difficulty moving the leg.


Treatment for a groin pull usually involves a combination of rest, ice, compression, and elevation (R.I.C.E). Rest is crucial to allow the injured muscles to heal, and avoiding activities that may aggravate the injury is essential. Applying ice to the affected area helps reduce swelling and numb pain. Compression, through the use of a bandage or compression shorts, supports the injured muscles and helps control swelling. Elevating the leg when possible can also assist in minimizing swelling. Additionally, over-the-counter pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medications may be recommended by a healthcare professional to manage pain and inflammation. In more severe cases, physical therapy may be prescribed to strengthen the muscles and improve flexibility, aiding in a full recovery from a groin pull.
