Jumpers Knee (Patellar Tendonitis): Jumpers knee, medically known as patellar tendonitis, is a common overuse injury among athletes, especially those involved in sports requiring repetitive jumping and landing motions like basketball. It is characterized by pain and inflammation in the patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap (patella) to the shinbone (tibia). The repetitive stress placed on the tendon during activities such as jumping, running, or sudden stops can lead to small tears in the tendon and subsequent pain, particularly just below the kneecap.

Treatment of Jumpers Knee: Treating jumpers knee typically involves a combination of rest, ice, physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory medication. Initially, resting the affected knee and avoiding activities that exacerbate pain is crucial to allow the tendon to heal. Ice therapy can help reduce inflammation and alleviate pain. Physical therapy exercises focusing on strengthening the muscles around the knee, particularly the quadriceps and hamstrings, can improve biomechanics and reduce stress on the patellar tendon. Additionally, stretching exercises to improve flexibility and mobility in the quadriceps and hamstring muscles may be beneficial. In some cases, a knee brace or taping techniques may provide support and help alleviate symptoms during activity. It's important for athletes to gradually return to their sport and avoid overloading the tendon too soon to prevent recurrence of the injury.
